Embracing Your Rainy Day Wedding:

5 Tips for Creating Unforgettable Memories

Oh that good old British summer weather! You’ve heard the saying “rain is good luck on your wedding day” and you think it’s just because your guests are trying to be kind when your dream day has arrived and the weather is not really playing nice! But the saying actually comes from Hindu traditions as a fertility blessing and a blessing of abundance. When a knot becomes wet it is extremely hard to untie, so when you “tie the knot” on your wedding day, and it rains, it is said to be good luck and signifies that your marriage will go the distance!

Our last wedding was one of the wettest weddings we have ever attended and our bride and groom, Adam and Louise were absolutely amazing. They embraced the day and enjoyed every minute, despite the disappointing British weather! While many couples dream of blue skies and sunshine for their wedding day, there is a certain charm and magic that comes with a rainy day wedding. Embracing the rain can lead to unique and unforgettable experiences that will be cherished for a lifetime. If you find yourself facing the prospect of a rainy wedding day, fear not!

Here are five tips to help you make the most out of your rainy day wedding and turn it into an enchanting affair.

Rain did not stop play, or diminish the joy at the fabulous wedding of Adam and Louise. They were married at All Saints in Marlow, and despite the rain they even stopped the traffic on the iconic Marlow Bridge to get some pictures before making their way to Henley-on-Thames for their wedding reception at Phyllis Court Private Club.

  1. Embrace the Romance of Rain

Rain has a way of creating an intimate and romantic atmosphere. Rather than letting the rain dampen your spirits, embrace it as a symbol of fertility, cleansing, and renewal. Picture yourself dancing under twinkling string lights, with the gentle pitter-patter of raindrops providing a soothing background melody. You can even provide umbrellas for your guests in your wedding colors, perhaps get some custom designed with your wedding date as wedding favors for your wedding entourage creating a unified and picturesque scene in your wedding photos. By embracing the romance of rain, you'll find that it adds a layer of magic to your special day.

2. Prepare for the Weather

Planning is crucial when it comes to a rainy day wedding. Having a backup plan in place for an indoor ceremony and reception is essential. Ensure that your chosen venue has adequate indoor spaces that can accommodate all your guests comfortably. Work closely with your wedding coordinator and vendors to make sure everyone is on the same page regarding the contingency plan. Be prepared with umbrellas, towels, and a few extra pairs of shoes, just in case the rain gets heavier. A well-prepared bride and groom can take on any weather with grace and ease.

3. Decorate with Rain-inspired Elements

Incorporate rain-inspired elements into your wedding decor to make the most of the weather theme. Opt for floral arrangements with vibrant blooms and lush greenery that thrive in rainy conditions. Twinkling fairy lights, lanterns, and candles can add a warm and cozy ambiance to your indoor spaces. Consider setting up a hot chocolate or coffee bar to offer guests a comforting beverage during the chilly weather. By incorporating rain-inspired elements, you'll create an atmosphere that celebrates the beauty of nature's unpredictability.

4. Have Fun with Photos

Rainy weather offers a fantastic opportunity for creative and stunning wedding photos. Embrace the rain and use it as a backdrop for your portraits. We can capture beautiful reflections in puddles, glistening raindrops on leaves, and a romantic embrace under an umbrella. Wellies (perhaps in a bright colour or your wedding themed colours) add a pop of colour and fun to your bridal portraits. Embrace the spontaneity of the weather, and you might be rewarded with some of the most magical and candid shots. Remember, rain or shine, your love will shine through in every photograph.

5. Create Cozy Comforts

With the weather outside being a grey and dull, focus on creating cozy and inviting spaces for your guests indoors. Use soft blankets, plush cushions, and warm throws to set up comfortable seating areas where guests can relax and mingle. You may also consider setting up a hot chocolate and marshmallows station or serving comfort foods like soup or macaroni and cheese during cocktail hour. Providing your guests with warmth and comfort will ensure they feel pampered and cherished, making your wedding an unforgettable event.

Conclusion

A rainy day wedding can be a dream come true if you approach it with the right mindset and preparation. Embrace the romance of the rain, plan for the weather, and infuse your wedding with rain-inspired elements to create a magical and unforgettable experience for everyone involved. Remember, the most important thing is the love and commitment shared between you and your partner, regardless of what Mother Nature has in store. So, embrace the rain, let go of any worries, and make your rainy day wedding a cherished memory for years to come, just like Adam and Louise did!
